For over 60 years, The Grand Western Tour has fostered a spirit of adventure in young explorers. In addition to experiencing some of the most iconic landmarks in America, they’re given the chance to navigate new situations, manage their own schedules and budgets, and solve real-world problems under the guidance of experienced mentors.
All three of my children had a great experience on the Grand Western Tour. They loved their travels and met so many friends who they have stayed in touch with through college and beyond.
The Grand Western Tour is a travel experience so rich and unforgettable, it has become a cherished family tradition as popular today as it was more than 60 years ago. In fact, it had such a profound impact on one of our teen alumni, she grew up and acquired the company. (Mary Hale, 1981 alum pictured with husband and co-owner, Scott)
Our experienced and trusted staff are the driving force behind this legendary summer teen tour. Primarily composed of dedicated educators and counselors over 21, they specialize in connecting with young minds and providing a balance of independence with oversight, encouragement with discipline, and guidance with fun-filled leadership.
Our whirlwind tour unveils more of this nation’s treasures than any other. In just 33 exhilarating days, we traverse 18 states, explore over 22 cities, and marvel at the majesty of 8 iconic National Parks. It’s the travel opportunity of a lifetime for a high schooler!
There’s no better place to make 50 new best friends than cozied up on a bus, singing your favorite tunes together, sharing stories around a campfire at the ranch, or getting locked up in a cell at Alcatraz. Our tour is designed to help students make new friends through activities that promote positive group dynamics in addition to getting to know each participant on the trip. The shared laughter, triumphs, and lifelong memories endure long after the bus rolls back into Greensboro.
Teens have the opportunity to explore and learn about the country in a setting of chaperoned independence. We encourage them to navigate cities in small groups without staff, empowering them to discover on their own, while providing structure and oversight to keep them safe.
Our trip across America takes place on a deluxe motor coach piloted by a professional driver with an excellent safety record. The Prevost motor coaches are considered the most comfortable and safest on the road. Students are assigned different seats each day which fosters new friendships and gives them plenty of time to get to know everyone on board.
This trip was one of the best experiences of my life not only because of the friends I made along the way and the places I saw, but also the hardships that I and the group faced while on the trip. These ups and downs made me a stronger person and allowed me to be the most mature, responsible, and self-loving person I can be. Thank you Grand Western Tour!
